How do I inflate my bike tyres with the Zéfal Mini Air pump?

Whatever your bike valve, here are the steps to follow:

• unscrew the valve cap (sometimes it gets lost, it's not a big deal)

• for presta valves, unscrew the valve lock (small moving part at the top of the valve) after removing the cap

• push the valve as deep as possible into the pump head. Lock it with the latch and... inflate!

When should I inflate my bike?

Well-inflated tyres are synonymous with safe cycling. We recommend that you check your tyre pressure once a month. By riding with a properly inflated tyre, you reduce the energy needed to move your bike forward, as well as the risk of punctures and tyre wear. The recommended pressure in bars is normally indicated on the sidewall of the tyre.

What is a valve?

The valve is the end of the inner tube that protrudes (towards the inside of the wheel) and to which the pump hose is connected. There are three types of valve: Presta, Schrader and Dunlop.
To identify your valve :

• SchraderThis is also the valve used in cars; it's a little wider than the others, and when you remove the cap, there's a needle in the middle that you press to let the air out if you need to deflate the tyres.

? Valve most commonly found on recent city bikes, VAEs and trekking bikes.

• Presta is a thinner valve on which you have to unscrew a small safety catch to be able to inflate, after removing the cap. If this safety catch is pressed after inflation, the air escapes. Remember to screw it back on tightly before putting the cap back on.

? Valve most often featured on vintage bikes and road bikes both old and new.

• Dunlop is an uncommon valve. It's thin like a Presta, but there's nothing to unscrew before inflating except the cap.
